Medical Centres in Morocco

Dar Bouazza SOS Social Centre

The SOS Social Centre, Dar Bouazza works to help young people and adults in the local community, who have special needs. This has focussed on giving these young people and adults, the technical and social skills they need to become independent and integrated into society.

Imouzzren SOS Social Centre

The SOS Social Centre, Imouzzren on the north coast of Morocco focusses on giving support to girls from the rural community. This concentrates on their education - additional teaching in Mathematics, French and English - and their vocational skills - computing, dressmaking and knitting. In addition the SOS Social Centre has given medical advice and treatment to about 1,000 patients.

Update from 2008:

The aim, objectives, and geographical situation of the Social centre at Imouzzer Kandar call for the reflection on our desires and the values which are essential for the success of our unit.  Indeed, we have to encourage courage, responsibility, commitment and self-confidence.  All these human qualities must combine together to face the numerous difficulties that present themselves to us.

SchoolingSOS Social Centre Immourzer Morocco

32 adolescent girls are attending high school (3 years).  Continuous individual monitoring of each girl is ensured inside and outside the centre to follow their school and educational development.

Because of the level of the girls is below average upon their arrival, the centre has the responsibility of improving their level so they can access the higher classes.  They are monitored by an orientation professional who tries to direct them towards economic sectors where the demand for workers are high, and thus employment possibilities are more sure.

Since they are boarders, the girls are closely supervised. They abide by and respect the rules of conduct that are instituted by the internal regulation: hygiene, demonstration of values, communication, and respect for the others.

In addition, complementary classes are offered: cooking, remedial work, first aid.

Health Centre

The social centre also runs a health centre and two sewing, embroidery and knitting workshops.  These activities are serve mainly the local population, women who have no other means either to seek medication or to learn a profession that will secure an income to care for their families.

The medical interventions that the centre offers are: circumcisions; gynecological consultations; checking blood sugar level; distribution of donations; paediatrics; vaccination against meningitis, measles and German measles.

Important Event

We have been rewarded for all the efforts we have made during this year with a high rate of success at the Baccalaureate examination: out of 14 girls who took the exam 8 passed, which represents more than 65%. (The national average is 35%).
