Calbayog SOS Social Centre

The SOS Social Centre, Calbayog helps orphaned and vulnerable children and their families in the local community. It supports over 250 local families with a day care centre. Children are given medical checks, parents are given advice on nutrition, prevention of disease and skills training.

Update from 2008:

Thirty five (35) barangays were already reached by the Family Strengthening Programme run from the SOS Social Centre at Calbayog. One thousand one hundred twenty six (1,126) beneficiaries are availing the necessary provisions of the program and are encouraged to involve in the activities set for them. Eight hundred seventy (870) community scholars have access to provision of education and to date, sixty nine (69) families already availed the Camilean Health Insurance and Philhealth Cards and one hundred forty six (146) below normal weight children were fed daily through the support of the Diocesan Health Commission. Capacity of the families to protect and care for the children was intensified through the Community Based Training Programme focusing on Carpentry, Masonry, Plumbing and Basic Welding.

A range of activities (workshops, trainings, lectures and exposures) were undertaken too by the beneficiaries in building up their families like Lecture on Personal Hygiene, Good Nutrition on Pregnancy, Proper Hygiene of the Family,  Session on Anti-VAWC, Child’s Rights Session, Workshop on Values Revitalization, Leadership and Election of Youth Leaders, Competitions in Quiz Bee, Singing, Doble Cara, Folk Dance, Draw and Tell, Youth Leaders Exposure at the centre, Malunggay Plant Implementation, Small Business Management Training, Baking Seminar, Communal Gardening called “Gulayan sa Pamayanan”,  Abaca Making Seminar, regular Community Clean-up Drive, and Dressmaking.   Self Employment Assistance-Kaunlaran (SEA-K) financial assistance for small scale business to 30 selected members was processed.

Davao SOS Social Centre

The SOS Social Centre, Davao helps orphaned and vulnerable children and their families in the local community. It supports over 600 local families with a day care centre. Children are given medical checks, parents are given afdvice on nutrition, prevention of disease and skills training.

Update from 2008:

The Social Centre’s Nursery School held its 26th Commencement Exercises with 76 graduates for this school year. Through the scholarship programme, eleven graduated: six in Elementary, two in High School, and three in College – all in Nursing. 

While in the Family Strengthening Programmes, an initiative to help needy families in the neighboring communities, 60 children beneficiaries graduated: 16 in Pre-School, 30 in Elementary; and 14 in High School.

Apart from the usual activities of the Social Centre and FSP, during the PFR activity on the Making Envelope Livelihood Launching was a ceremonial turn-over of the materials and the patterns for the envelope making.  Then actual demonstration was shown, attended by 25 FSP mothers and 25 mothers of the scholars. This livelihood project will help our FSP mothers learn a new kind of livelihood skill as well as generate funds through the partnership.

Iloilo SOS Social Centre

SOS Social Centre Iloilo Philippines The SOS Social Centre, Iloilo helps orphaned and vulnerable children and their families in the local community. It supports local families with a day care centre. Children are given medical checks, parents are given afdvice on nutrition, prevention of disease and skills training.

Update from 2008:

The SOS Iloilo Family extended help by serving as the Evacuation Centre of flood victims in one of the barangays in Jaro, Iloilo City on one of the central islands of the Philippines. Tagged as “BULIG SOS”, a Relief Operation was extended for those affected by typhoon Frank. 103 adults and children were evacuated at the Social Centre which served as their temporary shelter. Among the rescued were a 27 days-old infant and a pregnant woman suffering from trauma and depression. Medical check up was conducted and free medicines were also given to the evacuees. Meals were given to the evacuees prepared by the SOS mothers, coworkers, children and youths. Social Centre staff also helped in the distribution of relief goods.

SOS Social Centre Lipa

Update from 2008:

Our Social Centre at Lipa caters the needs of 42 mothers of FSP children. They organised a Mothers Club and help in maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of our SOS Nursery School and the centre. They attended the Skills and Livelihood Programmes offered by the Social Centre and just last December 26, 15 of the mothers just graduated from the TESDA accredited sessions on Basic Sewing and Dressmaking. The mothers also prepared for the children’s weekly Supplemental Meals programme.


Our current FSP is serving 124 children belonging to 110 families. 115 are given free pre-elementary education. Another nine elementary pupils received full educational assistance and another one in High School. Apart from education, we provide a range of package of services such as medical and health package, skills training and Family counseling sessions. On-going partnerships with the Barangay, local health offices, vocational/technical training institutions and the local church.

Tacloban SOS Social Centre

The SOS Social Centre, Tacloban helps orphaned and vulnerable children and their families in the local community. It supports over 400 local families with a day care centre. Children are given medical checks, parents are given afdvice on nutrition, prevention of disease and skills training.

Update from 2008:

At year end of 2008, there are 176 children and 131 youths beneficiaries in 60 families, 26 Scholars, 40 nursery school pupils at the centre, and 1,014 pupils at the SOS School (Tigbao-Diit Elementary School).

The FSP beneficiaries and the Staff joined institutional activities in the Children’s Village like Sponsors’ Day, SOS Day, Staff Recollection & Outing, Fund Raising activities, and other institutional celebrations.  Regular activities monthly implemented include first Friday Mass, staff meeting, and Mothers’ Club meeting; implemented annually are Mothers’ Club (MC) elections of officers, Valentine celebration, election of scholars’ officers, Nursery School commencement exercises, Women’s month celebration, Sports fest, Mothers’ Day celebration, Nutrition month celebration, launching of Family Strengthening Programme (FSP), Universal Children’s month, Visit to the Missionaries of Charity, and supplemental feeding.   Part of the on-going development of FSP beneficiaries, seminars and workshops on various topics were conducted such as: RA 9262 – Violence Against Women & Children (VAWC), Gender Sensitivity/Human Sexuality/Harassment and Living a Christian Life, Entrepreneurial Management, and Emotional Intelligence.  Also conducted to the FSP mothers and youths were skills training on the following: Backyard Piggery, Food Processing, Skirting, and Table Setting.

Regular health and related activities of the centre include medical and dental check-ups, de-worming, weighing, feeding, and health lectures.
