SOS Social Centre Daegu
Based on the eastern part of South Korea, the SOS Social Centre, Daegu, helps orphaned and vulnerable children and their families in the local community. It supports the education of children in the local community. In addition, since October 2004 the SOS Social Centre provides short-term care for orphaned and vulnerable children and their families. This incliudes day care for children of working parents.
SOS Child Welfare Centre, Daegu
Nine staff members of this centre worked with 1,417 children and their families through the whole year. Our SOS children, who participated in the programme of the centre, are five. The users participated in three different classes for education, psychological therapy and linguistic therapy. We organised the education for disabled children, which focused on their parents and teachers. By opening swimming pool to local children, we gained a good reputation from our community. Moreover, the library of our centre has largely contributed as a useful place to be able to get along together our children and non-disabled children in our community.
SOS Temporary Care Centre, Daegu
There are current 57 children in our centre, but eight staff members took care of total 116 children for the whole year. 59 children left our centre due to many reasons. 15 children of them were transferred to child welfare facilities or a facility for the disabled, 39 returned to their families, and two of them were adopted or fostered. We provided them with counseling, educational services and health care services: visiting museums and libraries, summer camps and protective inoculation.
A lot of local volunteers and sponsors have helped our children recover traumatic pains from their previous circumstances. We organised the anniversaries for the hundredth day of newborn babies and the first year birth day of babies with taking photographs. Our building was totally renovated inside and outside to provide a child-friendly environment for children.
SOS Social Centre Seoul
The SOS Social Centre, Seoul has, since October 2004, given orphaned and children and their families support with their education and day care for children of parents at work.
SOS Child Welfare Centre Seoul
The total number of 176 children, 64 SOS children and 79 local children and 13 local adults, used our facility for 2008. The users decreased in the numbers because our facility restricted the number of the admitted children in order to provide high quality services for them.
We provided our children cultural and educational programmes like after school classes, PCA English Adventure, the experience of ecological study and drama performances. The number of multi-cultural families has increased in our society recently, so we organised programmes for them; for example, they were Korean classes, a traditional Korean etiquette class, computer classes, medical checks and counseling. In 2008, one of the major objects for children was to support children from low income family with the quality of food. Our performances and music concerts to show local residents, sponsors and volunteers became opportunities to understand us. We contributed to the community, leading the group counseling programme for the students in an elementary school in our community.
SOS Day Care Centre for Children Seoul
We worked with total 79 children, 7 SOS children and 72 local children, last year. We have supported the standing committee composed by children’s parents in order to gather parents’ and children’s needs, ideas and information and reflect to our care services. This led us to provide the better educational programs and child care. We registered Info-map of Seoul City, which our children’s parents are bale to check their children’s activities in our facility every hour. It has helped to build a firm relationship between our parents and our facility.
We focused on the improvement of children’s meal services to prevent children from taking inappropriate food and strengthened the security system due to an increase in the crime rate on children. Our facility was selected by Yangchun-gu Office as an excellent day care centre.
